This handmade bird sculpture is handmade from paper. He has a bright yellow belly with black and white markings, blue back and wing feathers with white markings, and the signature black framed face, with eye stripes and a tuft of blue on his noggin. He is completely made by hand out of hand cut paper feathers and is one of a kind. He sits on a wreath of leafy green stems and green hydrangea blooms.
This piece measures 24 cm (9.5 inches) tall and 21 cm (8 inches) wide. The blue tit is 13 cm (5 inches) from tail to beak.
Hangs from the wall via invisible fishing line. There is a (copper coated) steel hook hanging at a drop of 30 cm (12 inches) from the top of the wreath, which will hang on a nail tack on the wall.
It is always so delightful to find a blue tit visiting the garden. They are such pretty creatures. They often band together with other species of tit or finch, finding safety in numbers while looking for worms among your grass. Blue tits are one of my favourites because they combine my favourite colours; blue and yellow.
Blue tits are the original milk thieves, known for piercing old bottle tops and making a nuisance of themselves for milkmen all over the country! They don’t crop up much in folklore, suggesting they used to stay hidden in the woods, away from human interaction. If they were stealing things in the old days, surely somebody would have written a story about a bird with such cheerful plumage!
