Coal Tit standing sculpture

£65.00

This handmade coal tit sculpture is made from layers and layers of paper in white, black and dark grey. His feet are steel wire, and he is varnished with a satin lacquer.

My favourite detail of coal tits is their little polka dot shoulder feathers. Aren’t they adorable? His wing feathers have a white trim, which makes him look rather fancy. If he was human, he’d be wearing a dinner jacket and bow tie. Males and females have the same very smart plumage.

About 14 cm from beak to tail.

Coal tits are similar to their American chickadee counterparts, with their classic black capped heads. I must confess I am not good enough at spotting birds to know if I’ve seen a great tit or a coal tit when they’re hiding in the trees! Their head markings are similar and with the naked eye they can often seem in silhouette. Both a delightful spot, though! Coal tits are more shy, but I do get excited if it is a conifer they'‘re hiding in, as it might very well be a monochrome friend.
